Following the introduction of Lasting Power of Attorney in October 2007 we have had many requests from both clients and will writers for simpler and less expensive alternatives.

General Power of Attorney can now be produced from a single form within the Legacy system. The 'Donor' only needs to appoint Attorneys and decide whether the powers should be granted for a fixed period or run until revoked.

A General Power of Attorney provides the same facilities for dealing with a donor's financial affairs but does not continue if the donor loses mental capacity. However in many cases this is all that is required allowing temporary control by trustees when the donor is absent or even when elderly clients wish to allow family members to run their bank accounts, etc. even though they are still mentally competent.

Advance Decision documents (also known as an Advanced Directive or Living Will) have been given extra credence with the Mental Incapacity Act 2005. The Advance Decision module has now been extended with extra choices for the testator.
	The first form allows selection of applicable illnesses and conditions of incapacity after which doctors would be asked to act according to the directions given. The second form allows the testator state treatments that would be unacceptable. General Practitioner details are optional entries.
