Using the Legacy Document System with Vista

Our program uses Microsoft developer components. In their wisdom, for the new Vista operating system Microsoft have decided that parts of their own earlier (2003) software tools could be a security threat. The following adjustments to Vista settings will solve the problem.

Depending on how it is set up and which version of Vista you use, if you see error messages such as (null) line 0 and Internet Explorer script error 204 follow the three steps below to get the Legacy Document System up and running.

1. Open Help and Support from the Start menu. Type into the Search line "Turn off UAC". This brings up the page shown. Click on item 1. on this page to open User Accounts:

Search for Turn Off UAC

2. In the User Account screen click the item "Turn User Account Control on or off"

Turn UAC on or off

3. Make sure that the UAC is UN-ticked before clicking OK. You may get "Are you sure you want to do this" messages which have to be okayed to enable the Legacy software. Your PC may need rebooting first.

Un-tick UAC

Once the Legacy software has been run successfully the UAC can be turned back ON if you wish. This routine is only a temporary measure and we are working on a fix to make it unnecessary for future installs of our software.

Please call us during office hours if you have further problems running our programs with Vista.
